Ahh-mazing Hatha Yoga

This class is taught by:

Domenic Nappa III

Domenic is originally from Rhode Island where he grew up playing football, lifting weights and working in construction, namely concrete work. After undergoing numerous upper body injuries, running became the exercise where he found peace of mind after running great distances. After moving to Florida for work and struggling for a while, through many perfectly aligned circumstances, he found yoga. He fell in love with the practice as it offered a peace of mind that he had only found on long distance runs. He enjoys the physical, upper body strengthening postures, and is well versed in inversions and arm balances. His classes, while being well rounded, will move you toward understanding the capabilities of your body as he believes there is no “can’t” or “never” in yoga. Yoga saved Domenic’s life and he feels it is his true calling to share his passion about the effects yoga can have on people's lives, both mentally and physically. He loves the prospect of being a student and teacher of yoga for the rest of his days.

Vanessa Materassi

Originally from Venezuela, Vanessa speaks English, French and Spanish; she has a degree in Human Resources and a Master's Degree in Project Management. After an injury, in a search of a way to heal, she discovered Yoga and fell in love with it! She has been practicing different Yoga styles including Hatha, Vinyasa and the Iyengar method for more than 15 years, and has also attended many diverse workshops throughout those years. Vanessa decided to complete the 200 RYT teacher training out of gratitude for her teachers and in order to share her passion and knowledge with others. Her teaching style is focused on alignment of the body and the health benefits yoga has on our bodies and minds, reducing the stress of our busy journey, and increasing the flexibility in our lives.

Edwin Prado

Edwin is a student of wisdom (jnana), life and the journey presented in every moment. His background is in engineering with an emphasis in sustainability for building systems. During college, he took a course in eastern religions for an easy grade and also to explore what other frames of perception exist. He practiced yoga on and off but never saw it as a lifestyle or a life long journey. It was eventually the unfolding of and discovery of one's actions and reactions (karma) that eventually lead him to really discover this practice. Edwin has completed Hatha, Anuttara Raja and Vinyasa teacher trainings at Anuttara Yoga Shala.

He feels it is an honor and a pleasure to help serve the community and give back what his teachers and journey have provided; to serve is the highest calling of any Being.
We focus on pranayama (breath control) and asana (posture) alignment. Expect detailed instruction throughout the class; the teacher will provide modifications and variations to adjust the practice to the students' level of practice. Non-heated, suitable for all levels.

“The main objective of Hatha yoga is to create an absolute balance of the interacting activities and processes of the physical body, mind and energy. When this balance is created, the impulses generated give a call of awakening to the central force, which is responsible for the evolution of human consciousness. If yoga is not used for this purpose, its true objective is lost.”

~Swami Muktibodhananda Saraswati, Commentary, 1985 translation, Hatha yoga Pradipika
